Cartridge Care and Troubleshooting Guide
For Reiner Jetstamp Series 990, 790MP, and 792MP (QD & QDX Cartridges)
STOP: Read this before using or opening your cartridges.
Please follow these steps to extend cartridge life.Use them to fix faint prints, streaks, or lines.Use them when ink remains, but printing has stopped.
Initial Setup and Daily Handling
When you receive your cartridge, it will be sealed in a foil bag with a plastic cap affixed to it.
Unpack: Remove the cartridge from the foil bag (do not discard the bag). Do NOT peel anything from the bottom of the cartridge.
Date: Write the opening date on both the cartridge and the foil pouch.
Unclip: Remove the red plastic cover clip and save it for future storage.
Install: Insert the cartridge into the machine according to the manufacturer's manual.
Short Breaks: For breaks longer than 5 minutes, we suggest removing the cartridge from the printer. Wipe excess ink from the nozzles with a lint-free cloth, attach the cover clip, and return it to the foil bag. Crucial: Never leave the cartridge in the machine overnight.
Cleaning Supplies: Keep lint-free cloths and isopropyl alcohol or ethanol on hand. Wet a 1-inch portion of the cloth to clean the print head if dried ink accumulates. Never use water or any other cleaning agents.
Syringe: Retain the small plastic syringe included with your cartridge for bleeding air bubbles (see instructions below).
Charging and Docking Warning: When the machine rests on its base with the cartridge installed, it will purge ink. This automatic function helps prevent clogging. Always remove the cartridge when charging or docking the machine overnight to avoid accidentally draining the ink supply.
Storing the Cartridge
For any break longer than 5 minutes, remove the cartridge from the printer. Wipe excess ink from the nozzles with a lint-free cloth. Then reattach the cover clip. Store the unit inside the original foil bag to minimize oxygen exposure.
Wiping the Print Head
Because QD and QDX inks dry fast (1–2 seconds on non-porous surfaces), they dry quickly. They can also dry on the print head’s gold foil strip. If your prints are unclear or the cartridge has sat idle:
Dampen a 1-inch section of a lint-free cloth with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol.
Gently press and wipe the gold strip/print head from back to front (the back is the side opposite the wing and ink outlet). You should see a thin black line of ink on the cloth.
You may need to wipe it a few times or run 1–2 test prints on paper to restart the ink flow.
Resume normal printing.
Note: Refer to page 16 in the manual for photos. QD and QDX cartridges do not feature a peel-away strip or felt pad.
Bleeding the Cartridge
Air bubbles can occasionally block ink flow, causing partial prints, faint lines, or complete failure to print. Follow these steps to bleed the cartridge:
Locate the syringe included in the foil pack. Keep the small rubber tip attached.
Pull the plunger back only to the 3rd small tick mark (approx. 1/8 inch). Do not pull it to the 1 or 3 numbers.
Fold a paper towel several times to create a thick pad.
Remove the red clip and set the cartridge with the gold print head face-down on the paper towel.
Locate the small circular air hole on top of the cartridge.
Place the rubber tip of the syringe firmly over the air hole to form an airtight seal.
Press down firmly on the plunger to force air through. Never pull the plunger upward while the syringe is on the cartridge.
Check the paper towel underneath for an ink spot.
Wipe the gold strip from back to front with an alcohol-dampened cloth.
Reinstall the cartridge and test.
Cartridge Carrier Maintenance
If the printer stops working after you clean and bleed the cartridge, dried ink may block the contacts.The contacts are in the cartridge carrier.
Locate the gold foil firing pins at the bottom of the cartridge slot.
- Gently wipe the contacts with a lint-free cloth.
- Dampen the cloth with isopropyl alcohol or the provided cleaning solution.
- Keep wiping until the contacts are clean.
Expiration & Warranty Information
Cartridges carry an expiration date that is only valid while sealed. Once opened, improper storage and maintenance can lead to performance issues. Open cartridges are strictly guaranteed for 30 days, provided proper care and storage guidelines are followed.
